Founder and Executive Director of Rainbow Days Cathey Brown has been honored as a recipient of the first ever "Visionary Award" presented by the Betty Ford Center on behalf of its Metroplex Children's Program. The national award was created to honor those who have distinguished themselves as visionaries in the field of substance abuse education, research, prevention and philanthropy. The award was presented to Cathey by Mrs. Betty Ford on November 8, 2000.

Cathey Brown was recently selected as an individual recipient for the Dallas for Children Children's Champion Award in 2000. She was recognized "as an extraordinary professional, the founder of Rainbow Days, and for her outstanding commitment to improving the lives of the young children of Dallas." Cathey received her award from Judy Gausnell at the 2000 Children's Champion Awards held on June 17, 2000.

In May of 2000, the federal Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) awarded Rainbow Days its prestigious Exemplary Substance Abuse Prevention Program Award for 1999. Rainbow Days received the award for its “Curriculum-Based Support Group” model of prevention and for its “outstanding community-based efforts in applying effective prevention strategies that reduce the use of alcohol, tobacco and illicit drugs, especially among young people.” There were only three recipients in the State of Texas.

In 1999, Rainbow Days received a HUD Best Practices Award for our ground-breaking Family Connection program. The intent of the award is to designate specific programs throughout the country as the best of their kind or "the best practice". Rainbow Days was one of one hundred recipients in a field of 3,000 applicants. In addition, the Rainbow Days award was the only Best Practice award that was given to an agency that focuses on children.
